Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety began in 2019, with the Final Report presented to the Governor-General, David Hurley AC DSC in February 2021. It was tabled on 1 March 2021.
Our response
We welcomed the release of the findings and the Government’s initial response.
It's time for action
In 2021, the 12 aged care consumer organisations issued a joint response to the Final Report, identifying the key reforms we want the Federal Government to progress in the next 2 years.

Priority 1: Mature age home care traineeship scheme
Provide 2,000 mature age home care traineeships per year to help meet demand.
An interim report was released in October 2019.
Titled Neglect, the report highlights the litany of failures in the system and made several immediate recommendations to government, including the need for more home care places.
How you can help
If you'd like to support us, sign up to our Advocacy Supporters Group to have your say on this and other important issues facing older Australians.
Through our advocacy work, we have contributed to many aged care reforms over the years, but we see the Royal Commission as an important opportunity to fight for more.
We made several key submissions and appeared before the commission to prosecute the case for change on behalf of all older Australians. We continually lobby the government directly and through the media to get your voice heard.
As our CEO, Prof. John McCallum said, "There needs to be substantial changes made to the aged care system and we won’t rest until there is."
