Walking Groups


Do you enjoy keeping fit and meeting new people?
We’re looking for volunteers to lead our new walking groups.

National Seniors has partnered with the Heart Foundation to provide opportunities for members and the community to connect with people and improve fitness through walking groups.

If you already run a walking group in your local community or through your National Seniors branch, even better. Let us know and we can combine powers!

Heart Foundation Walking


Regular physical activity such as walking can help:

  • with managing weight, blood pressure and cholesterol
  • reduce the risk of some types of cancer
  • maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • improve balance and coordination.

How often will the group meet?


It's up to you and your group. The group organisers set walking routes and the frequency of walks.

Track your progress!


You can use The Heart Foundation Walking mobile app to track your progress. If you use the app, you will also have the opportunity to take part in challenges with the chance to win prizes. 

Volunteer as a group organiser


We would like to form as many walking groups as possible, but we need your help! Each group will need two or three organisers to coordinate walking events.

Register your interest to be a walking group coordinator. Group organisers will receive:

  • Heart Foundation walking training
  • the support of a Heart Foundation local coordinator
  • a Heart Foundation walk organiser t-shirt
  • advertising material to promote the walking group to people in their local area.
