NSA welcomes electricity rebate

Queensland seniors will receive up to $1,372 to help with power bills.

National Seniors Australia has welcomed the Queensland Government’s $1,000 electricity rebate for all Queenslanders.

This means eligible seniors, pensioners, and concession card holders will receive a total rebate of $1,372 to help with the rising cost of electricity.

Be prepared

CEO Chris Grice said NSA is pleased to see the government has listened to the needs of Queenslanders, including those most vulnerable.

“NSA called for an increase to the electricity rebate in its 2024-25 Queensland Budget Submission and is pleased to see the government has listened by delivering direct cost of living relief for all Queenslanders including seniors, pensioners, and concession card holders,” Mr Grice said.

“Rising living costs are crippling households, with many going backwards. This especially impacts the wellbeing of vulnerable Queenslanders, many of whom are seniors on fixed incomes.

“At NSA, we continually hear from Queensland seniors struggling to pay necessities including utilities, petrol, transport, groceries, and rent.

“Thanks to this announcement, electricity will be one less bill to worry about and Queensland seniors can look forward to a comfortable winter.

“NSA congratulates the Queensland Government for providing this relief and reminds everyone to look out for the new rebate on their next bill.”

The $1,000 will be automatically credited to eligible residential customers from 1 July 2024 – there is no need to apply.

Timing will depend on individual billing cycles. To be eligible, you must have an electricity account with your electricity retailer or embedded network provider on 1 July 2024 and be separately metered and charged for usage.

If you already receive the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate, you will also automatically receive that.
